We had a great afternoon at the beach with friends today. While it was perfect in so many ways - the kids got along well, the weather was perfect, everyone had a great time - there were so many ways that we just couldn't get it together.
1. We went to the beach without any towels with us or in the car. Seriously? Who does that? Did we honestly believe that our girls would just look at the water and not go in? Caroline in particular loves the water and will go in no matter what the temperature is. She did go in, and she did sit down. In fact, she was wet up to her armpits. Lucy followed directions and didn't sit down exactly, but she started kneeling in the water and ended up just as wet. And there we were with no towel drying the girls off with Steve's fleece jacket.
2. We also didn't bring another set of clothes. If we had brought said clothes, they would have come in very handy.
3. This is the one that really gets me. I brought my camera and took so many great pictures of the kids together, in the water, eating ice cream, etc. I was so proud of myself. I promised the other mother I would email her the pictures. I got home and immediately went to upload the pictures ... until I realized that I left the memory card in the computer the whole time and my camera had not actually recorded any of the pictures I had taken. Epic fail. It was so bright outside that I guess I didn't see the "No Card" message that the screen gave me when I turned it on.
So, here's too a great afternoon that left me feeling happy and shaking my head at the same time.
