Gobbles!

We went to the beach a lot this weekend. There are no pictures mainly because we spend the whole time running after the two little wackadoos.

Anyway, we all had a great time playing in the sand and water. We have been trying to convince Lucy to put her head under water, but she hasn't been very receptive. She loves for us to pick her up and splash her around in the water, but if her face gets wet she tends to freak out. So today when Steve was splashing her around he "accidentally" let her go and she flew into the water causing her head to be completely submerged.

I was annoyed with Steve at first. I felt like she should choose to do it as opposed to having some sort of traumatic experience that she would be explaining to her shrink 20 years from now. (Mind you,  the water was only up to her waist so it wasn't like she was going to drown and we were both within five feet of her.) Anyway, she stood up with a big grin on her face and actually let Steve do it again. As Steve pointed out, in new situations Lucy is often unsure of herself, over thinks the situation, and needs a little push (or a giant shove in some cases) to realize that she can do it.

So, she enjoyed being thrown into the water a grand total of two times before declaring that she needed goggles if she was going to do it again. Sold. We made a trip to Target this afternoon to pick up a pair. Being the savvy parents of two children, we immediately threw a second pair in the cart for Caroline who was sure to cry that she needed them also.

We got into the car and Lucy and Caroline both put their goggles on right away. They looked ridiculous and hilarious all at once. Caroline kept saying, "Mama, I wear gobbles. Mama, gobbles on."

It was clear that the gobbles were a hit. So we went home and wore them some more so that i could get a photo opportunity.

Easily my favorite "gobbles" photo
