That's How You Know

And that's how you know that Lucy is really tired: she falls asleep on the couch in the middle of a show.

This may seem run of the mill, but in our house this never happens. Our girls rarely nap in the car, and they never fall asleep if there is a good show on. It is safe to say that 99% of their sleeping happens in their beds and only at night. Even Caroline is starting to politely decline the afternoon nap. In fact, as Lucy sleeps on the couch I can hear her opening and closing drawers and singing in her room. Sigh.

Boog

Our dog, Boog, is perhaps the only one in the house who has been positively affected by the outbreak of the flu:

Doesn't he look ecstatic?

He's never had this many people home at one time during the day!

Flu Blues

My lack of posting has been the result of a crazy basketball season combined with the flu officially taking the Soden household by storm.

Last Thursday Lucy went to bed and seemed a bit out of it. She woke up with rosy cheeks and a temp of 102.6. The fever got worse as the day went on and it eventually rose to 104.6. We called the doctor who was helpful, but unfortunately told us that there was little we could do other than have Lucy rest, drink lots of fluids, and switch off between motrin and tylenol every 3 hours.

We were thankful for the 3 day weekend to recover and assured each other that she would be back in school on Tuesday. Her fever shot back up on Tuesday morning and then this morning Caroline woke up with a fever too.

Sigh.

I am not sure that both of them will be in school at all this week. Lucy is hopeful and Caroline is doubtful.

Luckily they have been in fairly good spirits, and at times they have had a shocking amount of energy.

Living the dream: chocolate milk, snacks, and a show

Feeling better but still on the mend

I am still waiting for either me or Steve to catch this nasty bug. Of course, I would much rather have us get it than them. I feel like once you become a parent the only way that you are officially sick is if it requires a hospital visit. And even then, I'm not sure that's true.

Over In The Meadow

Caroline loves a children's book, Over In The Meadow, and she requests it everyday when we get to school.

Her teachers are the best. They are nurturing, they are kind, and they are patient - patient enough to read the same book over and over again everyday.

They are also sweet enough to send me pictures like this during the day. When I am having a bad day, I can open my inbox and see this sweet face:

Happy New Year Part II

Our girls are active. I don't know that they are any more active than other kids, but one thing is for sure: if we keep them cooped up in the morning then they start to go stir crazy. It is particularly difficult in the winter when going outside isn't an option and the indoor options are crowded with other people. (I like people, but I don't want to be crammed up next to them trying to stop my children from using their children as tackling dummies.)

Anyway, New Years Day was a tough balance because all Steve and I wanted to do was sit around all day and watch football. The girls were very good sports for the morning. They kept themselves busy by dressing up in PJs, tutus, my shoes, and ski hats:

After the morning, however, things got dicey. I didn't get any pictures of that because I was too busy herding children and trying to protect the (very few) valuables in the house from being destroyed.

Happy New Year to all!
